With only a couple of sleeps until the opening of the Paris Olympics, Bendigo residents are enthusiastically comparing the pungent aroma of their beloved Bendigo Creek to that of Paris’ iconic Seine River. According to the City of Greater Bendigo, the uncanny resemblance is a testament to the town’s growing cosmopolitan appeal.
“You can smell the romance of the Bendigo Creek.” declared Emily Curry, head of the Bendigo Tourism Board, while standing bravely close to the creek’s edge. “Sure, Paris has Chanel and Dior, but we have… Um, sorry, can we stand over there and continue the interview?”
The comparison gained traction after local travel blogger Coffee Wilson published a viral post declaring, “Bendigo Creek: Our Own Slice of Parisian Charm.”
“Why spend thousands on a trip to Paris when you can simply stroll by Bendigo Creek?” asked Mayor Andrea Metcalf, standing proudly near the creek during a press conference. “Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and you’ll swear you’re in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower—if the Eiffel Tower were surrounded by Eshay’s and people calling you the c-word.”
“We may not have the Louvre or the Champs-Élysées,” Cr Metcalf added, “but we’ve got a creek that smells like Paris. And in the end, isn’t that what matters?”
More to come.
