Missing the sights and smells of Sydney during the Coronavirus lockdown? Today, Bendigo Airport and Qantas began offering travellers the chance to do just that, with some 30 people eager to take a trip to nowhere.
Passengers were still able to wait in line for 15 minutes, check-in their luggage, receive boarding passes then board the flight. Their experience was powered by nostalgia.
The 90-minute experience featured a tiny bag of peanuts for a snack and the first half of Castaway.
One passenger said “It was almost like flying” while another said “I believe I can fly. I believe I can touch the sky. I think about it every night and day. Spread my wings and fly away.”
At the end of the journey, passengers were greeted with a giant coat hanger and a make-shift Kings Cross to represent their arrival to Sydney.
Qantas said that if the flights become popular they plan to expand to New York and Queensland.
