An officer issued a warning to a dog yesterday for leaving her owner in her car while she played at the dog park, police said.

Bendigo police responded about 6:32 pm to the dog park in California Gully for a report of a human locked in a car, Officer Don Green said.

An officer located the car and found the passenger and driver windows open about 1 inch for air circulation. The officer remained near the car for a few minutes before the human’s owner, a 2-year-old Pomeranian approached yelling “yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, police said.

The officer explained it was 40 degrees and that leaving a human inside a car in those conditions could hurt her owner.

Officer Green opened the car to remove the human. The woman was sweating from head to toe and dazed and confused. The officer entered the car and found the inside to be at least 60 degrees, police said.

The dog allowed her owner to cool off outside and said she would take her own home, police said.

The dog has been put on good behaviour.
