In a pungent protest echoing history, cow manure was dumped outside Premier Jacinta Allan’s office this week. Allan slammed the act as “disgraceful,” but footy fans saw something deeper: a smelly omen.
Back in 2001, a Richmond supporter famously dumped chook poo outside Punt Road in protest. Sixteen years later, the Tigers broke a 37-year premiership drought in 2017, then in ’19 and ’20. Now, with manure flying again, Tiger fans dare to dream.
“Maybe it’s the universe telling us something,” one fan told The Bendigo Standard, clutching a 2017 scarf. “Poo drops, Richmond rises.”
Political analysts are less optimistic. “It’s democracy by dung,” said Professor Barry Shovel. “But hey, it seems to work.”
Police are investigating the culprit — described as “a rural protester with access to livestock and a trailer of regret.” Meanwhile, Allan’s office has installed security cameras and industrial-strength air fresheners.
Sources say Premier Allan’s hydrangeas have never looked healthier.
