In a move that has shaken the very foundations of Australian sport, the newly formed Bendigo Rugby League Club has decided to reinvent the halftime orange. As part of their strategy to attract new fans and, presumably, more pub sponsorships, the club has announced that the classic fruit will now be soaked in beer before being handed out to players.
In what can only be described as a bold fusion of hydration and local brews, Tooheys and CUB—have jumped on board, providing alcohol-soaked fruit for maximum team spirit.
The initiative aims to deliver the most authentic rugby league experience possible, especially for those still trying to figure out the rules.
But the club isn’t stopping there. It has made it mandatory for all new players to get tattoos before stepping onto the field. While some may find this a bit extreme, club president Mikey Dynon clearly states, “We’re building a culture here, and nothing says ‘rugby league’ like regrettable body art.”
Mr Dynon told The Bendigo Standard, “Whether you follow the Bendigo, Heathcote District, Loddon Valley or any other football league, you will be invited to jump on the Bendigo Rugby League bandwagon once you realise your team is done for the year.”
