Macca’s Goes Big This Australia Day With The McVegemite Shake

In a move sure to divide the nation more than the Great Emu War, McDonald’s has announced its latest Australia Day offering: the McVegemite Shake. The limited-edition beverage, described as a “creamy yet umami-packed” treat, combines soft-serve ice cream’s smooth texture with Vegemite’s unmistakable salty tang. According to Maccas’ marketing department, it’s “the taste of Australia in a cup” – though early reviews suggest it’s more like the taste of regret with a straw.

“We wanted to create something uniquely Australian,” said Macca’s spokesperson Trent “Davo” Davidson, speaking from a PR tent hastily erected at the Bendigo McDonald’s Drive Thru. “Vegemite is more than just a spread—it’s a national icon, a rite of passage, and now, thanks to our innovation, it’s a beverage!”

The McVegemite Shake will be served in a limited-edition cup featuring a kangaroo doing a shoey, accompanied by the slogan, “Sip the spirit of Australia!” Patrons can also upsize their combo for an extra $1 to receive a McVegemite Shake and a side of Tim Tam McNuggets.

Local reaction has been mixed. Self-proclaimed Macca’s connoisseur Brayden Schultz tried the shake early and shared his thoughts: “It’s bloody disgusting, but also… I kinda love it.” Later, Brayden was seen ordering a second one “just to confirm.”

Nutritionists have slammed the product, with one saying, “It’s basically a heart attack in a cup but with extra sodium.”

Macca’s has doubled down on its commitment to Vegemite-themed products, hinting at a possible McVegemite Sundae and a “Happy Little Cheeseburger Meal” soon.

I’m lovin’ it.
