Long Gully couple Darren and Shaz Henderson ushered in the new year with an understated celebration that could only be described as “adequate.”
Armed with lukewarm sparkling wine from Aldi and a packet of stale Allen’s Party Mix, the pair tuned in to the Sydney fireworks on ABC, describing the experience as “almost like being there.”
“We thought about heading to the fireworks in town,” said Darren, gesturing vaguely towards the direction of Rosalind Park. “But then Shaz said, ‘Why deal with crowds when the ABC’s got a better view?’ And she’s not wrong.”
“Next year, we might go all out and get a packet of Jatz,” Shaz told The Bendigo Standard.
As the clock struck midnight, the couple agreed they’d never been so proud to start a year with minimal effort.
“Who needs the Bendigo fireworks when we’ve got each other, a couch, and matching Bluey pyjama pants?”
