For some couples, a romantic escape is as simple as a paper-wrapped bundle of fried seafood and a serene lakeside view – at least, that’s the case for Sharon and Greg Martin from Kangaroo Flat.
After months of saying, “We really should get away,” the pair made it as far as the other side of Huntly before deciding Echuca was “too far” and opting for fish and chips at Lake Weeroona instead.
‘It’s practically the same thing,’ Greg said as he eyed the murky waters of Lake Weeroona, seagulls swarming around their minimum chips.
Though the trip was downgraded from a riverside B&B to the front seats of a 2001 VX Holden Commodore, spirits remained high. “It’s all about spending quality time together in nature,” said Sharon, swatting a bee away from her potato cake.
The couple plans to attempt Echuca again during the Christmas holidays—if they can make it past Huntly.
