“Long Gully’s Not That Bad” says person who lives there

Abercrombie Cardigan, a 5th generation Long Gullyan has been trying to convince her family and friends that Long Gully isn’t that bad.

Ms Cardigan told The Bendigo Standard “I have a few friends who have been on Highway Patrol. It feels like winning the Powerball every time I see someone I know on that show.”

In 2010 Ms Cardigan won the Miss Long Gully pageant at the RSL and said her life changed. “I moved from St Just Point to the Long Gully CBD and my life changed. I’m super close to the fish and chips shop now. It’s just a bit of a walk to the servo to grab more Tally-Ho’s.”

The town has struggled in recent years with the closure of the local library, two schools, three churches and police station, 50 years ago. It was also home to the richest quartz reef known in the state.

“Long Gully is a bit alright,” said Bacardi Monaro, mother of 8. “How many suburbs in Bendigo or anywhere can say their suburb has a splash park AND an RSL?” Ms Monaro said. “My defacto husband has a special skill ability for telling you where all good burnout spots are.”

When a Bendigo Standard Journalist tried to ask another local what they thought about Long Gully, they were greeted with “What the **** are you doing here ****. No one reads your ****** paper ****.”
