Australia Day celebrations began with a shaky start this morning after a New Zealand flag was accidentally raised on top of the town hall.
The Kiwi flag was up for about 15 minutes before a passer buyer noticed the error.
The Bendigo Standard asked the Bendigo Council for comment but they were still investigating the stuff up.
We understand the official council flag raiser is a New Zealand ex-pat by the name of Pete Cantdothehaka. It was later discovered Mr Cantdothehaka was the New Zealand flag bearer for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. This is the same year New Zealand won bronze in curling.
Mr Cantdothehaka has stepped down until he passes his citizenship test again.
